Espana, Spain

Introduction

Espana, this is how the Spaniards pronounced their country as and is the officially Kingdom of Spain which was government by the king or the queen that includes Balearic and Canary island, South-Western Europe. The Spanish mainland had used up the major part of Iberian Peninsula of the Baleric Islands in the Mediterranean Sea of the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean.

Land

Spain is divided into 17 autonomous communities and were subdivided into 50 provinces during the beginning of late 1970s. There were Madrid, Burgos, Valladolid, Leon, Zamora, Salamanca, Toledo and Badajoz.

Territories in the Northern Morocco were controlled by Spain which also includes Ceuta and Melilla, and the islands of Penon de Velez de la Gomera, Penon de Alhucemas and Islas Chafarinas where a particular group of people living.

People

The Spaniards value the rich ethnic and cultural diversity within their regional group. However, there were members of groups who want to have independence of their national, religious to which they belong to such as the Catalans and the Basques. Up till now, both Catalans and the Basques are still speaking and writing in their respective areas.

In 1978, Roman Catholic became the official religion and there was about 1 million of the Muslim population residing in Spain and in addition consists the majority number of North African immigrants.

Other than the people living in Spain, I have found out that there are actually indigenous groups around which consist of 16% Catalans, 7% Galicians, 2% Basques and Euskaldun, and the Nomadic Spanish Roma who are also known as Gitanos.

Hence, I have decided to concentrate on one of the indigenous groups which is the Basques country.
